![]() EAPCI8M.ECW DOWNLOAD DRIVERI have VMWare tools, that sound driver and DirectX9c installed. As far as my experience goes, you can't fix the slowness due to the 16 Bit instructions native to the MS-DOS based OS's. The new version of VirtualPC works, but has a lot of problems with Win98 as well. I guess I could just scrap the entire VM and rebuild it with a fresh OS install.Įven though some of VMwares features like Unity dont work with Win98, I think its better. EAPCI8M.ECW DOWNLOAD DRIVERSIve installed sound drivers on real Win98 PCs with the same hardware back in the day and never ran in to this problem. My problem seems to be either the SB PCI driver installed correctly, but wasnt properly registered in the audio service, or VMware is failing to communicate with the guess OS properly, but I dont know enough about the Win98 or VMware audio systems to troubleshoot either scenario. Manually adding a driver for a device that isnt there is like building a bridge to nowhere. In fact, manually adding an SB16 as the page said didnt work, the driver refused to start. The sound device for VMware was automatically recognized by the guest OS, I didnt have to manually add it. In VMware Player 6, the adapter was installed by default, but not connected, so I enabled it and selected the audio device on the host machine. ![]() Of course, thats not compatible with Win98, so deleted the setting and started again.Īpparently in this version, VMware tries to guess the appropriate audio device to emulate, sound.virtualDev merely overrides that. There was no sound.virtualDev in my vmx file, so I added it, but that didnt do anything.īooting it with the setting changed to hdaudio did bring up a different device, which by the PnP ID would have been a ALC888. Id2010400 Though the information was interesting, it didnt help. These instructions are for a different product but it should work. Others have reported that they could get sound working with this version of VMware, but Im not having any luck.Īs you can tell, Im no n00b, but its been awhile since Ive messed around with Win98 and might have overlooked something.Īny suggestions EDIT: Ops, forgot to mention that the host OS is Win7 home 64bit. Ive uninstalled the driver, reboot, reinstalled, and rebooted again, but still no playback devices and of course no sound.Įverything else seems to be running as well as to be expected-not all of VMwares features are available in Win98. I recorded a fresh boot.log and the sound driver is reported as Loaded and Enumerated. I enabled the sound options in the VM, set the correct host device, installed the Win98 SoundBlaser PCI driver recommended for VMware, SBPCIWebDrvsV51201.exe, and the associated devices are listed in Device Manger without any issues, but theres still no playback devices listed in the multimedia control panel. eapci8m.ecw is also installed, but its just a higher quality midi sound set than the one that comes with the driver. ![]() I have VMWare tools, that sound driver and DirectX9c installed. EAPCI8M.ECW DOWNLOAD INSTALLThe hardware will install and not blue screen, part way through you may be asked to reboot, press no and reboot when the setup has finished. ![]() You need to look for the pci lines highlighted below and delete them. Right click the Virtual Machine and click Show package contents. ![]()
